How to Go Back in Ddlc: Visual Guide to Resetting Scripts and Save Data
The structural overhaul introduced in Doki Doki Literature Club Plus changed the preservation workflow completely. The console-compatible rebuild embeds a mock operating system known as Metaverse Enterprise Solutions (MES OS). You no longer browse Windows Explorer to resolve game states; everything occurs inside the simulated OS.
| Feature / Process | Original Freeware (2017) | DDLC Plus (2021, 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Reset Mechanism | Manual deletion of firstrun and AppData files |
Executing internal reset.sh inside the in-game virtual desktop |
| Directory Location | Native PC OS file system (/game/characters/) |
Virtual file explorer inside VM menu (MES OS) |
| Cloud Interference | High risk; Steam Cloud auto-restores deleted saves | Low risk; VM state handles self-contained scripts |
| Time Required | 3, 5 minutes manual file handling | Under 30 seconds via UI buttons |
In DDLC Plus, when you reach Act 4 or get stranded in the space room during Act 3, exit the visual novel window to return to the virtual desktop. Open the Files application on the desktop screen. Navigate to the root directory, locate the reset.sh file, and double-click it.
The simulated system prompts you to confirm whether you want to delete current progress and return the environment to Act 1. Click confirm. This triggers a clean Act 1 script reset without wiping unlocked concept art, music tracks, or side stories earned across your profile.
