Who Is Bro Meme? Inside the Viral Trend Taking over Tiktok and X
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
Platform algorithms reward intense emotional reactions, and few personalities generate more raw spectacle than YouTube and Twitch streamer Darren Watkins Jr., known globally as IShowSpeed. High-energy streamer moments frequently collide with confusion, creating the perfect soil for the IShowSpeed bro meme catalog.
During unscripted streams where unexpected guests appear or unusual street interactions take place, viewers flood the live chat with real-time disorientation: "Who is bro?" When IShowSpeed challenged strangers or reacted wildly to bootleg products, spawning viral offshoots like the "Say Wallahi Bro" audio clips documented across streaming spaces, the phrase cemented itself as shorthand for utter disbelief.
Visual culture quickly adapted. Alongside text quips, reaction images surged on X and Reddit. Memes such as the Jonah Hill "I guess bro" reaction GIF, where the actor shrugs with mild defeat, gave visual weight to this detached skepticism. When sports fans mocked baffling managerial decisions, paralleling the viral French soccer memes dissecting Kylian Mbappé's perceived team control, the phrase "who does bro think he is?" became the universal headline.
