What Is Ishowspeed Actually Watching? the Real Origin Behind the Viral Meme
By James H. Sterling
Q1: What game or video was IShowSpeed playing when the meme happened?
A1: The reaction happened during an open-ended broadcast session where Watkins was reviewing community-submitted video links and playing indie horror games. The specific trigger was an unexpected, high-volume screamer disguised inside a submission clip sent by his live chat, rather than a narrative event inside a mainstream game.
Q2: Why is the viral clip always shown in black and white?
A2: The original YouTube livestream was broadcast in full color with Watkins' normal studio bedroom lighting. Third-party video editors on TikTok and CapCut desaturated the footage to amplify the psychological dread, matching the monochrome filter with eerie horror ambient sounds to create an uncanny atmosphere.
Q3: Did IShowSpeed address the viral reaction meme publicly?
A3: Yes. Watkins has repeatedly acknowledged the meme on subsequent livestreams, occasionally referencing his own frozen expression while browsing fan edits on Reddit and Twitter. He frequently jokes about how audiences use his terrified face as universal shorthand for online trauma.
