Who Is Jiang Zhinan? the Untold Story Behind the Breakout C-Drama Star
By James H. Sterling
Chinese youth romance dramas frequently stumble into predictable tropes: cold academic geniuses paired with clumsy heroines. When I Fly Towards You bypassed several of these clichés, but the subplot featuring Jiang Jia and Gu Ran (played by Bian Tianyang) ignited social media platforms like Xiaohongshu, Weibo, and TikTok.
The duo offered an antidote to standard romantic pacing. Their interactions thrived on dry banter, bickering that masked genuine protective instincts, and a gradual realization of mutual affection that mirrored real-world adolescent awkwardness. Fan edits dissecting their cafeteria stares and umbrella exchanges accumulated tens of millions of views across Southeast Asia and Latin America. Industry analysts observed that Jiang gave her character emotional stakes; when Jiang Jia cried over unrequited crushes or academic pressure, viewers felt an unpretentious pang of teenage vulnerability rather than melodrama.
