Not Disney? the Shocking True Origin of the Viral White Rabbit Clock Meme
By Alexander Ross
Q1: Did Disney produce the viral white rabbit pointing at a clock image?
No. Disney did not illustrate or animate this specific viral frame. While it borrows character attributes from Lewis Carroll's White Rabbit popularized in the 1951 animated adaptation, the image is modern digital fan art created by an independent artist online.
Q2: What does the White Rabbit with clock meme signify in online chats?
The image serves as an explicit visual metaphor for approaching deadlines, overdue projects, and intense time pressure. Users post it as an image macro to express collective workplace panic or warn colleagues that critical time has run out.
Q3: Is the character protected under copyright laws?
Lewis Carroll’s original 1865 literary character and John Tenniel's original illustrations reside entirely in the public domain. Disney maintains strict trademarks over its specific 1951 animated character designs, while the individual creator of the modern viral illustration owns the copyright to their specific drawing.
