The companion update also resolved a decade of player complaints regarding wolf survivability. Wolves no longer perish easily from accidental creeper explosions or errant arrow fire, thanks to the introduction of craftable wolf armor.
Crafting wolf armor requires 6 armadillo scutes arranged in a chestplate-style pattern across the crafting grid. Armadillos, native to savannas and badlands, drop scutes periodically or when brushed using a standard copper brush. Once crafted, right-click the armor onto an adult, tamed striped wolf.
The armor acts as an autonomous health buffer. It absorbs incoming physical damage entirely until its durability shatters, leaving the dog underneath unharmed. Visual crack patterns appear across the plates as it degrades under fire. Players can repair the armor mid-combat by right-clicking the dog with loose armadillo scutes, or dye the armor using any of the 16 base dye colors in a crafting table to match custom bases.
