Kemono Real-Time Status Report: Server Uptime, Media Downtime, and Live Updates
The underlying architecture of Kemono relies on a decoupled system. The HTML frontend, user profiles, and index catalogs operate on one tier of servers, while multi-terabyte graphic files live on distinct storage clusters. When an image fails to render, the frontend query executes successfully, but the secondary request directed at the media cluster drops silently.
During the last 48 hours, traffic monitors registered a sharp rise in Cloudflare 502 bad gateway warnings. These errors occur when the reverse proxy receives an invalid or nonexistent response from the origin storage server. Upstream edge servers attempt to establish an outbound TCP socket with the internal image clusters, wait through a 30-second threshold, and terminate the connection when the storage farm fails to acknowledge the request.
Compounding this problem is aggressive rate-limiting. As scrapers and concurrent visitors overwhelm the site's ingress gateways, edge firewalls trigger defensive throttles. Legitimate image calls get categorized as hostile automated traffic, resulting in dropped packets before the browser can even initiate media decoding.
