Haitian Pie Telegram Video Rumors: Separating Real Footage from Phishing Scams
The most pervasive threat in the current campaign centers on account takeover through QR-code phishing. When a target enters the landing page, an interface appears claiming to verify the user's age via their existing messaging app. The prompt displays an authentication QR code, requesting that the user scan it using their phone's settings tab.
Scanning that code does not verify age. It grants an attacker an immediate, authenticated web session on the victim's account. Within seconds, automated scripts scrape the user's personal chat history, extract saved contacts, and commandeer the profile. The compromised account transforms into an active node within the bot network, spamming the exact same bait links across its private message lists and group chats. The user loses control of their profile while their friends receive seemingly organic endorsements to follow the malicious links, creating an escalating chain of infection.
