Beyond his chart metrics, Burke has built an intricate fictional universe around his music, centered on a brooding character named Itami, often referred to within his broader creative arc as Darkstar. Drawing heavy inspiration from Japanese animation such as Tokyo Ghoul and Naruto, d4vd utilizes this masked persona to channel his darkest lyrical impulses.

The character, recognizable by bloodied bandages and a tattered blindfold, serves as a narrative vessel for themes of betrayal, heartbreak, and emotional detachment. By maintaining this persona in music videos, merchandise, and live interludes, Burke gives listeners a visual narrative world to step into. It distances him from standard singer-songwriter tropes, giving his catalog a cinematic edge that keeps his core audience actively invested.
