Fact Check: What Are the Marlow Heights Lovecraft Photos Really Showing?
By David Miller
Where did these images actually originate? The source trail leads back to an online portfolio created by an independent digital artist specializing in analog horror and alternate reality games (ARGs).
In October 2023, the artist posted the set to an art-sharing community under the working title "The Prince George's Anomaly." The original post was explicitly tagged as conceptual fiction, crediting generative tools, Photoshop painting, and custom analog LUTs. The creator designed the set as world-building practice for an indie video game pitch.
Within days, engagement-farming accounts scraped the pictures, removed watermarks, chopped up the high-resolution files into vertical video formats, and wrote a spine-chilling creepypasta voiceover. Divorced from its artistic context, the project transformed overnight into an alleged real-life found footage mystery. The original creator watched their creative world hijacked by viral algorithms, helpless as automated content channels collected ad revenue off the fabricated hysteria.
