Wrong Spot Could Cost Your Discount: Where to Put the State Farm Beacon
State Farm provides two factory-approved installation options. Both rely on high-bond automotive adhesive tape included in the packaging.
The primary recommended spot is high on the interior windshield glass, situated right behind the rearview mirror on the passenger side. This rearview mirror mount keeps the unit outside your regulatory sightlines while positioning the Bluetooth antenna high in the passenger cabin. Elevating the unit minimizes signal interference from the steel engine firewall and lower dashboard electronic wiring harnesses.
The secondary approved spot is the upper horizontal surface of the dashboard. This installation works well for vehicles featuring steep windshield rake angles, commercial vans, or trucks equipped with expansive panoramic windshields where reaching the upper glass proves awkward. If choosing a dashboard installation, position the tag as close to the center windshield base as possible. Avoid locating it directly over passenger airbag deployment seams.
Mounting requires proper surface preparation. Automotive interiors accumulate off-gassing vinyl films, detailer sprays, and road dust that degrade double-sided adhesives:
- Clean the target surface with a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe. Do not use ammonia-based glass cleaners like Windex, which leave slick surfactants.
- Allow the mounting zone to dry completely for 60 seconds.
- Peel the protective backing from the adhesive strip on the device.
- Press the unit firmly against the clean glass or plastic for 30 continuous seconds.
- Allow the bond to set for 12 hours before driving over rough pavement.
