Everything You Need to Know About 'Amish Stud: the Eli Weaver Story' on Streaming
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
On the morning of June 2, 2009, neighbors found Barbara Weaver dead in her bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Her five young children were inside the residence, unharmed. In an insular settlement known for pacifism and minimal interaction with municipal law enforcement, a violent home invasion sent shockwaves through Wayne County. Local detectives faced an immediate cultural hurdle: an Old Order community that eschewed electricity, modern telecommunications, and worldly interference.
Suspicion settled on Eli Weaver almost immediately, despite his ironclad alibi. Eli spent that night on a guided fishing trip at Lake Erie, hours away from the crime scene. Yet detectives quickly uncovered that Eli was leading a brazen double life. While maintaining his outward appearance as an upstanding businessman running an outdoor archery shop, he kept hidden laptops and prepaid phones tucked inside his work outbuildings.
Investigators unspooled thousands of text messages. The communications showed Eli had repeatedly solicited various women online, openly asking multiple paramours if they could help him eliminate his wife. Most dismissed his inquiries as dark jokes. One woman did not.
