Why Is Troye Sivan in Drag Again? the Real Story Behind 'She's the Best' and Nicole Kidman
By David Miller
Beyond the stylistic choices, the collaboration highlights an Australian artistic dialogue. Kidman and Sivan share roots that run deep in the Australian arts ecosystem, having previously worked together on the 2018 biographical drama Boy Erased, where Kidman played the conflicted mother of Sivan’s character. Their reunion in a modern dance-pop setting shows how their creative relationship has matured over the intervening eight years.
Kidman’s presence carries specific cultural weight. For decades, the actress has served as an enduring icon within gay culture, from her camp turn as Satine in Moulin Rouge! to her widely memed AMC Theatres promotional spots. By casting Kidman as the titular "best," Sivan openly winks at the community's canonization of high-glamour divas. Their shared banter on camera relies on unspoken ease; Kidman does not appear out of place in a crowded queer venue because the queer community embraced her work long before this video was storyboarded.
