Who Was Görel Hanser? What to Know About Abba’s Beloved 'Fifth Member'
By Alexander Ross
Pop history routinely celebrates the performers under the stage lights while ignoring the tacticians working behind the curtain. Görel Hanser rejected the limelight by design. She preferred the steady rhythm of booking offices, phone lines, and contract files to the chaotic public glare that surrounded the band.

She navigated the Swedish pop supergroup through sudden global fame, bitter domestic heartbreaks, and an unprecedented digital renaissance. As ABBA’s digital avatars continue to perform nightly for thousands in London, Görel Hanser’s legacy remains permanently etched into the sound, survival, and spirit of pop music’s most enduring group.
