Who Plays Garrett Graham? the Truth Behind off Campus Star Belmont Cameli and Cast Feud Rumors
By Sarah Jenkins
Garrett Graham is not an easy character to adapt. In Kennedy's original novel, Graham is confident, witty, carrying the heavy baggage of an abusive, famous father while navigating the pressure of maintaining academic eligibility to play Division I college hockey. Casting directors spent months looking for an actor who possessed both the physical presence of an elite athlete and the emotional vulnerability required for Graham's private scenes with Hannah Wells.
Cameli brought athletic credibility to the audition room. Standing 6 feet 1 inch tall, the Illinois-born actor had played high school football before transitioning to modeling and screen acting. In interviews discussing his preparation for the Briar University rink scenes, Cameli noted that he spent weeks training on the ice to make Graham's stride and shooting mechanics look authentic to college hockey scouts. The result gave the show a grounded, physical weight that distinguished it from conventional teen dramas.
The on-screen partnership between Cameli and Bright served as the core anchor for Season 1. Adapting the fake-dating and academic tutoring arrangement from the book required timing that felt unforced. Streaming viewership surged during the show's premiere month, placing it among Prime Video's top scripted originals for the quarter and accelerating development on future seasons.
