Revisiting the cast over a decade later highlights an impressive pool of acting talent assembled right before their careers exploded into the awards circuit. Most notably, Rami Malek took the role of Benjamin years before Mr. Robot brought him industry fame and long before his transformative, Oscar-winning portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody (2018). Malek brought earnest, grounded charisma to Benjamin, turning a secondary character into an instant fan favorite.
Jamie Campbell Bower, who played Caius, cemented his villain bona fides here before going on to play young Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and terrorizing audiences worldwide as Vecna / Henry Creel in Netflix’s Stranger Things. Similarly, Angela Sarafyan built upon her role as Tia to become an indispensable star in Jonathan Nolan’s Westworld.
Character actor Noel Fisher stepped into Vladimir’s leather coat just as he was establishing himself as Mickey Milkovich on Showtime’s hit series Shameless. Director Bill Condon deliberately populated the fringes of the frame with established theatrical performers rather than runway models, giving the film’s tense standoff surprising dramatic weight.
