Who Is Charli D'amelio Now? Your Complete Guide to Her Tiktok Legacy, Career Moves, and Beyond
By James H. Sterling
The rise occurred with dizzying speed. Charli started posting dance clips in May 2019, primarily performing synchronized variations of trending routines like K-Camp's "Lottery" (the "Renegade"). Her technical background, over a decade of formal training in jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop, lent her clips a relaxed precision that set her apart from casual users. The TikTok algorithm favored her blend of accessibility and athletic timing.
By November 2020, CNET documented her historic milestone: D'Amelio became the first person on earth to amass 100 million TikTok followers, doing so in roughly eighteen months. She held the mantle of the most followed TikTok star until mid-2022, when Senegalese-born creator Khaby Lame claimed the top spot. Even as follower rankings shuffled, D'Amelio had already leveraged that algorithmic gravity to build personal infrastructure outside ByteDance's ecosystem.
