Where to Stream Every Jaden Smith Movie: the Ultimate Watch Guide and Career Overview
By David Miller
The trajectory shifted dramatically in 2013 with After Earth, an original sci-fi adventure film directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Developed from a story concept by Will Smith, the post-apocalyptic narrative placed Jaden in the central role of Kitai Raige, an aspiring ranger trapped on an abandoned Earth with his injured father.
The film faced intense creative and marketing scrutiny. Shyamalan’s direction leaned heavily into monotone emotional suppression, stripping away the natural warmth that defined Smith's earlier performances. Audiences and critics rejected the tone, resulting in a bleak 12% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a modest domestic gross of $60.5 million against a reported $130 million production budget. Though overseas sales brought the total to $243.8 million, the film was widely branded a critical misfire and an overt symptom of Hollywood nepo-baby packaging.
Industry trackers recently documented its continued migration across digital hubs; as reported by Collider, the sci-fi project recently landed on fresh streaming options after bouncing across Netflix, Tubi, and Starz. The film serves as a cautionary tale of studio overextension, yet it remains a curious draw for viewers examining the evolution of 2010s big-budget genre cinema.
