What Is a Palisade? Inside the Suv Upending the 3-Row Market and Hyundai's Latest Drama

Want to know more about What Is a Palisade? Inside the Suv Upending the 3-Row Market and Hyundai's Latest Drama? Here is everything you need to know for easy understanding.

The Palisade's biggest structural evolution is already breaking cover. Hyundai is finalizing a wholesale redesign for the 2027 model year, moving away from the curved, flowing grille of the first generation toward an aggressive, upright aesthetic reminiscent of the redesigned Santa Fe and Land Rover Defender.

Under the hood, the aging 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V6 will step aside. Taking its place is a dual-powertrain strategy:

  • A modern 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 delivering stronger low-end pulling power for towing duties.
  • A brand-new 2.5-liter turbocharged hybrid system paired with electric drive motors, designed to counter the runaway success of Toyota’s Grand Highlander Hybrid.

This hybrid powertrain addresses the primary criticism leveled against the Palisade since 2020: mediocre fuel stops. Early engineering targets suggest the hybrid variant will deliver upwards of 30 to 33 mpg combined while generating roughly 300 horsepower. Hyundai is also re-architecting the vehicle's electronic backbone to support over-the-air (OTA) software updates across all control modules, eliminating dealership visits for standard infotainment and drivetrain logic patches.
