What Does 'Slime You Out' Really Mean? Drake and Sza Expose Modern Toxic Romance
By Maya Lin-Takahashi
One of the most polarizing segments of the song is Drake's calendar verse, where he runs through January to December outlining a woman's predictable behavioral cycles. He rhymes through the months, mocking everything from cosmetic surgery trips in February to birthday tantrums in July. The sequence sparked immediate viral engagement. As reported by Complex, creative entrepreneurs online transformed the verse into an actual physical calendar that sold out across multiple fan hubs.
Yet the track also drew sharp criticism. Music outlet VIBE documented widespread listener pushback over a controversial line in the third verse comparing romantic labor to the struggles of enslaved people. Critics across social platforms and editorial outlets flagged the metaphor as tone-deaf and historically inappropriate, arguing that Drake's personal dating grievances did not warrant comparisons to chattel slavery.
The controversy highlighted the central contradiction of the track. Even when attempting to expose manipulation in modern romance, Drake's lyrics frequently walked into self-inflicted public relations traps, drawing attention away from the song's musical textures.
