Visual Testing Guide: How to Inspect Roblox Clothing Seams and Layering in Real Time
Classic 2D clothing applies like paint to an avatar's skin, whereas 3D layered clothing behaves like real fabric. These items use inner and outer deformation cages (`OuterCage` and `InnerCage`) to drape over diverse avatar proportions without clipping through the skin.
Testing layered assets requires Studio's dedicated Avatar Fitting Tool located under the Avatar ribbon.
Import your 3D asset (`.fbx` or `.obj`) through the Asset Manager. Open the Fitting Tool, assign your imported mesh as the asset, and select the corresponding clothing type (such as jacket, hoodie, or skirt). The interface presents a suite of avatar body types, from slender modern designs to exaggerated blocky builds.
Slide through the avatar scale presets inside the tool. Watch for mesh clipping, where the dummy's torso or limbs poke through the cloth. If the mesh clips through a larger avatar, your outer cage is too tight. If the fabric floats several inches away from a slender avatar, your inner cage lacks appropriate proximity. Adjusting these cage envelopes in Blender before paying publishing fees saves significant capital and time.
