Unmasking Tv Girl: Photos, Members, and Who Sings the Iconic Female Vocals
TV Girl originated in San Diego in 2010. Brad Petering founded the group with friend Trung Ngo, initially releasing a string of free EPs online that gained traction on music blogs like Pitchfork. After Ngo left around 2013 to pursue other paths, Petering took total creative control of the songwriting, lyrical direction, and production aesthetic. To build a functioning live performance outfit, he brought in Jason Wyman on drums and Wyatt Harmon on synthesizers.
Petering serves as the primary architect. He writes the biting, detached lyrics and builds the underlying instrumentals using chopped soul and pop records, treating indie pop like 1990s hip-hop boom-bap production. Harmon and Wyman translate those digital loops into kinetic live energy. While touring, the trio regularly appears in casual, unpretentious attire: button-downs, slacks, and baseball caps, standing in stark contrast to the vivid, neon-pink pop-art aesthetics of their cover art.
The band name itself has no connection to a specific woman. Petering selected the title simply because it sounded like a classic, detached mid-century phrase, fitting his obsession with mid-1960s television culture, advertising slogans, and vintage media packaging.
