Touring Pins Mechanical Co. : Inside the Design, Games, and Social Vibe
Rise Brands founder Troy Allen launched Pins Mechanical Co. in downtown Columbus in 2016 after spotting an operational bottleneck in standard entertainment venues. Traditional bowling centers required dedicated shoe counters, specialty sizing staff, and lengthy lane reservations that slowed customer turnover. Video arcades often relied on cumbersome magnetic cards that broke down under heavy Saturday night volume.
Allen leaned heavily into mechanical, kinetic interactions. The company stripped the digital sheen out of social gaming, assembling restored pinball cabinets from the 1970s through the 1990s, mechanical hook-and-ring toss games, and steel Skee-Ball runs. These classic mechanical games do not crash on operating system updates, nor do they require tech support desks.
The aesthetic blends mid-century industrial warehouses with comfortable lounge living rooms. Exposed brick walls, raw steel trusses, and weathered leather armchairs anchor the main floor, creating distinct pockets where guests gather without feeling funneled through a single corridor. Instead of bright overhead fluorescent panels, amber filament bulbs illuminate the games, establishing a warm mood that feels closer to an upscale cocktail parlor than a suburban arcade.
