Timeline of a Rumor: How Entertainment News Sparked the 'Weird Al Dead' Queries
By Elena Rostova
Q1: Is "Weird Al" Yankovic currently alive?
Yes. "Weird Al" Yankovic is alive, healthy, and actively touring North America on his expansive "Bigger & Weirder" tour through 2026.
Q2: Why did people think Weird Al died in a plane crash?
The rumor started from episode three of the Amazon Prime science-fiction series Paper Girls. In an alternate-history 1988 timeline, a background radio news broadcast announces that Yankovic died in a plane crash. Many viewers mistook this creative plot device for historical fact.
Q3: Did Weird Al get assassinated in real life like in his movie?
No. The ending of the 2022 film Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, in which Daniel Radcliffe’s character is murdered on stage by Madonna's cartel, is pure satire. Yankovic co-wrote the script specifically to make fun of dramatic biographical films.
Q4: How old is Weird Al Yankovic now?
Born on October 23, 1959, Yankovic is 66 years old and continues to perform high-energy live concerts requiring extensive physical exertion and accordion performances.
