Tiktok Coins Price Comparison: Web Store vs in-App Purchase Breakdown
A persistent misconception among viewers is that sending a $100 digital gift delivers $100 to the creator. That is not how ByteDance structures its micro-economy.
When a viewer uses coins to deploy animations during a live stream, those tokens do not transfer directly into the broadcaster's account as spendable coins. TikTok immediately converts the received gifts into an internal creator metric called Diamonds. Two coins generally convert to one Diamond. Diamonds can subsequently be liquidated into fiat cash through connected PayPal or bank accounts at a fixed rate: $0.005 per Diamond.
This conversion reveals the platform's broader revenue split. ByteDance keeps approximately 50% of the gross gift value before the creator cashes out. If a supporter spends $100 in the mobile app, Apple or Google takes $30, ByteDance takes roughly $35, and the streamer receives approximately $35. When that same fan recharges via the web store for roughly $70, the creator still gets the exact same $35 payout, while the viewer avoids handing an unearned $30 subsidy to an app store operator.
