The Wild Story Behind Ishowspeed's Iconic 'Eyes Closed' Smiling Meme
By Alexander Ross
Q1: What stream did the IShowSpeed smiling meme originally come from?
A1: The expression emerged during an unscripted livestream challenge where Darren Watkins Jr. attempted to complete a "try not to laugh" viewing session. A specific viewer clip caught him off guard, forcing him to clench his eyes shut and bite down on his grin to avoid breaking the challenge rules.
Q2: Why did the face become popular as a reaction GIF on TikTok?
A2: Editors clipped the face and isolated it from the original broadcast context. Its strained, eyes-shut grin resonated as the visual representation of holding back laughter in highly inappropriate or serious real-world situations, driving millions of relatable caption videos.
Q3: Is the IShowSpeed meme face available inside Roblox?
A3: Yes. In late 2025, community creators and metaverse modders adapted the expression into custom user-generated content (UGC) face cosmetics, allowing players to equip the signature strained grin onto their 3D avatars.
