The Ultimate Mt. Moon Speedrun Path: Fastest Route Through Firered's Caves

Explore expert summaries on The Ultimate Mt. Moon Speedrun Path: Fastest Route Through Firered's Caves in this special report.

Climbing the final series of short ladders up through B1F leads to the bright exit threshold of Route 4. Once your character emerges into daylight, the path to Mt. Moon is irreversibly severed by a one-way ledge system. You cannot re-enter the cave from this side without traveling halfway across Kanto later in the story.

Route 4 offers an immediate strategic boon. Two martial artists stand directly outside the cave mouth waiting to teach your Pokémon high-impact moves. The trainer on the left functions as the Mega Punch Move Tutor, while the one on the right teaches Mega Kick. These Normal-type physical nukes (80 power and 120 power, respectively) give early-stage carries massive offensive spikes that can carry you through the Nugget Bridge gauntlet on Route 24.

Heal with any spare potions, skirt the tall grass on Route 4's downward slopes, and push eastward directly into Cerulean City. You have cleared Kanto's toughest early bottleneck.
