The Miki Entertainment Rollout: Key Dates, Airtime Schedules, and Major Milestones
In the contemporary visual art sector, Oakland-based artist Masako Miki achieved a major East Coast milestone with her solo exhibition "Midnight March" at the MassArt Art Museum (MAAM) in Boston. Running through the 2026 gallery calendar, the exhibition draws directly on the Japanese folklore concept of Hyakki Yagyō, or the "Night Parade of One Hundred Demons." Miki reimagined these historical spirit processions through oversized felted wool sculptures, bronze forms, and immersive neon backdrops.
The MassArt presentation reflects a shift in how major art institutions approach cross-cultural narratives. By transforming traditional Shinto animism and tsukumogami, the belief that household tools acquire spirits after one hundred years of service, into bright, semi-abstract characters, Miki explores themes of marginalization and non-binary transformation. The public exhibition operates under the museum’s free-admission model, welcoming university students, neighborhood residents, and international collectors into an interactive, gallery-scale installation.
