The emotional spine of the docuseries rests on the women who escaped Bishop’s inner circle. Their on-camera accounts reveal the contrast between Carbon Nation’s online marketing, which promised an eco-friendly utopia, and the daily reality of communal life.

Several prominent former members outline the systematic isolation they suffered:

• Former partners of Bishop who describe the psychological transition from willing spiritual seekers to captive followers. They provide vivid testimony about Bishop taking control of their cell phones, bank accounts, and identification documents.
• Several younger women recount being recruited through direct messages on Instagram and TikTok. Once they arrived at remote compounds in Costa Rica, Panama, and Jamaica, Bishop confiscated their money and enforced strict sleep schedules, often waking them in the middle of the night for hours-long berating sessions broadcast live to paying supporters.
• Former male members speak about the group's internal caste system. Men performed manual labor, secured rental properties, and ran security, all while enduring intense public humiliation if they failed to meet Bishop's fundraising quotas.

Their testimonies detail the physical toll of Bishop's commune: extreme weight loss from restricted diets, untreated tropical illnesses, and the terror of being abandoned in a foreign country without money or a passport.
