The Complete Guide to Percy Jackson Author Rick Riordan: Books in Order, New Series, and Screen Shows
By Marcus Vance
As Riordan’s career matured, readers frequently asked him to tackle other world mythologies, such as Hindu, Maya, Korean, and Yoruba traditions. Riordan declined to write them himself, citing cultural authenticity. Instead, in 2018, he collaborated with Disney-Hyperion to launch Rick Riordan Presents.
The imprint operates on a simple premise: Riordan uses his marketing leverage and name recognition to spotlight authors from specific cultures writing middle-grade fantasy rooted in their own heritages. Notable releases from the imprint include:
Roshani Chokshi’s Aru Shah series, which explores Hindu mythology through five bestselling installments; Kwame Mbalia’s Tristan Strong trilogy, which weaves West African folklore and African American folk heroes like John Henry; and Carlos Hernandez’s Sal and Gabi Break the Universe, which incorporates Cuban mythology and sci-fi elements. The imprint has published dozens of titles, functionally creating a decentralized ecosystem of diverse mythic fantasy that expands far beyond Riordan’s personal bibliography.
