Tested & Working: Automating Spicetify Updates with Windows Task Scheduler
Once your script exists, you need an automated engine to execute it without popping up intrusive command windows while you work. Automated background tasks in Windows 11 handle this smoothly through the Task Scheduler MMC snap-in.
Open Task Scheduler (`taskschd.msc`) and create the task using these exact parameters:
- General Tab: Name the task `Spicetify Silent Auto-Update`. Check Run only when user is logged on (Spicetify requires access to your local `%APPDATA%` and Spotify directories). Check Run with highest privileges to avoid UAC write blocks.
- Triggers Tab: Add a new trigger. Select At log on with a Delay task for: 30 seconds. This brief pause ensures Windows networking stack and user directories mount completely before the script queries Spicetify's GitHub repository.
- Actions Tab: Select Start a program. In the Program/script field, enter:
`powershell.exe`
In the Add arguments field, enter:
`-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -WindowStyle Hidden -File "C:\Scripts\spicetify-autoupdate.ps1"`
- Conditions Tab: Uncheck Start the task only if the computer is on AC power so laptop users maintain automated repairs on battery power.
With these four configuration steps in place, Windows will silently reconcile your themes every time you log in.
