Storyteller Guide: Is 'Duke Shoots Detective' Bugged or Just Tricky?

Read about everything you need to know pertaining to Storyteller Guide: Is 'Duke Shoots Detective' Bugged or Just Tricky.

The crime and punishment levels in Storyteller are built around what game designer Daniel Benmergui describes as information cascades. Characters can only act on knowledge they have personally observed or heard through gossip panels.

If the Duke commits a murder in the forest with no witnesses, the Detective cannot spawn in the next panel and automatically know who did it. The Detective needs to discover evidence: an abandoned dagger, footprints, or an eyewitness like the Butler. If you try to jump directly from a secret homicide to an armed standoff, the Detective treats the Duke as a random pedestrian. When you hand the Duke a pistol in front of a clueless officer, the game interprets the act as unprovoked assault rather than an escape from impending judgment. For the objective "Duke shoots detective to avoid prison" to trigger, the handcuffs icon must visibly appear in the Detective's thought balloon before the trigger is pulled.
