Step-by-Step Visual Setup: How to Deal and Play Classic Klondike Solitaire
Solitaire score tracking turns casual shuffling into a competitive exercise. Two tracking frameworks dominate physical card play:
Traditional point scoring rewards tactical progress across the grid. Moving a card from the waste pile to the tableau yields +5 points. Shifting a card from the waste or tableau up to a foundation grants +10 points. Flipping an obscured face-down card in the tableau scores +5 points. Conversely, recycling the stockpile carries penalties: cycling an entire deck through the waste pile can dock -100 points depending on rule strictness, and pulling a card back down from a foundation to save a stuck tableau costs -15 points.
Vegas scoring approaches the deck from an economic standpoint. You purchase the deck for an imaginary $52 stake ($1 per card). Every card successfully routed to a foundation pile pays back $5. Depositing 10 cards earns $50 (a net loss of $2), while loading 11 cards earns $55 (crossing into net profit). Clearing all 52 cards returns $260, yielding a clean $208 profit. In true Vegas rules, you cycle through the stockpile once, no recycling allowed.
