Language evolves faster than software development kits. Just as "Googling" replaced web searching and "Xeroxing" once stood for photocopying, "FaceTiming" has become generic shorthand for real-time video streaming between mobile phones. This semantic drift creates false technical expectations.

Apple holds tight control over FaceTime. While Cupertino introduced web links allowing Android and Windows users to join calls via Chromium browsers in iOS 15, it never released an open API allowing rival platforms to embed the native FaceTime interface directly. Snap Inc. followed a similar path of self-containment. When Snap introduced Chat 2.0 in 2016, it built a media engine engineered specifically for rapid, lightweight transitions between text, audio notes, and video feeds.

The apps handle media data differently under the hood. Apple routes FaceTime through custom end-to-end encryption protocols anchored to hardware security enclaves on iOS devices. Snapchat routes live calls through distributed TURN and STUN relay servers to optimize speed for its dynamic, AR-lens-heavy interface. Merging the two within a single chat feed call interface remains impossible without deep operating system access that Apple simply does not grant.
