Sam & Cat Cast Timeline: from 2013 Premiere to 2026 Resurgence
By Chloe Bennett
McCurdy's path after the sitcom represents one of the starkest departures from standard child-star tropes. After walking away from acting entirely following the 2016 cancellation of her Canadian sci-fi series Between, McCurdy entered intensive therapy for eating disorders, alcoholism, and complex familial grief. In 2020, she developed a tragicomic one-woman stage show titled I'm Glad My Mom Died, which she subsequently adapted into a memoir published by Simon & Schuster in August 2022.
The book became a runaway cultural phenomenon, spending more than 80 consecutive weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and selling millions of copies worldwide. In her writing, McCurdy pulled no punches regarding her time at Nickelodeon. She alleged that an unnamed executive, referred to simply as "The Creator", subjected her to uncomfortable boundary violations, including massaging her shoulders and pressuring her to drink alcohol while underage. McCurdy also disclosed that network executives offered her a $300,000 hush money payment to sign a non-disclosure agreement guaranteeing she would never speak publicly about her experiences. She refused the check. Today, McCurdy operates as a respected novelist and podcast host, having firmly closed the door on ever reviving the character of Sam Puckett.
