Sadie Sink’s Next Chapter: from Viral Tiktok Fame to Leading Hulu’s 'The Marriage Plot'
Jeffrey Eugenides published The Marriage Plot in 2011 to widespread critical acclaim, following the success of Middlesex and The Virgin Suicides. The story takes place at an elite New England university in the early 1980s, tracing a complicated intellectual and romantic triangle between English literature student Madeleine Hanna, manic-depressive biology scholar Leonard Bankhead, and spiritually questing religious studies student Mitchell Grammaticus.
Sink will portray Madeleine, an ambitious academic writing her senior thesis on 19th-century romance conventions while navigating turbulent real-world relationships. Adapting literary deconstruction for the screen requires extraordinary tonal control. FX brought in two of the most technically precise storytellers in American media to helm the production.
Director Hiro Murai brings a distinct visual rhythm refined across Atlanta, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Station Eleven. His direction emphasizes lingering, tactile imagery and understated character friction. Alongside him, Will Arbery provides linguistic authenticity. Arbery’s theater work dissects internal psychological fractures with razor-sharp dialogue, making him an ideal interpreter for Eugenides’ dense prose.
