Red Rising Movie Guide: Release Prospects, Cast Speculation, and Everything We Know
By David Miller
Is the Red Rising adaptation going to be a movie or a television series?
It is officially being developed as a high-budget television series. While Universal Pictures originally purchased feature film rights in 2014, those rights lapsed. Pierce Brown transitioned the project to serialized television to capture the full scope of the narrative without severe cuts.
Has any actor been officially cast as Darrow?
No. Official casting has not begun because the production package is still finalizing its distribution deal and co-showrunner attachments. Pierce Brown has noted that casting will focus on discovering fresh faces for Darrow, Sevro, and Mustang rather than chasing established Hollywood stars.
Which book will the first season cover?
Season 1 is structured to cover the entirety of the first novel, *Red Rising*. This includes Darrow’s life in the mines of Lykos, his Carving by the Sons of Ares, and his harrowing trial at the Institute as part of House Mars.
When is the Red Rising television series expected to release?
Assuming a network deal and showrunner are finalized in 2026, standard pre-production, filming, and heavy VFX timelines mean the series would target an airdate no earlier than late 2027 or early 2028.
