Oliver Shane Hawkins Timeline: from Wembley Tribute to Chevy Metal Leader
Rather than lingering in the periphery of legacy rock acts, Shane chose a grittier route: resurrecting Chevy Metal. Formed by Taylor Hawkins in the 2000s alongside bassist Wiley Hodgden, Chevy Metal functioned as a 1970s hard-rock cover band designed for unpretentious dive bars, surf shops, and club stages.
Shane began filling the drum chair for Chevy Metal club gigs across California, Oregon, and Nevada. Taking on the complex rhythmic structures of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Queen forced him to build stamina far beyond rehearsing single-song stadium guest appearances.
On stage with Chevy Metal, Shane shares vocal introductions and banters with long-time bandmates, adopting the relaxed, sweat-soaked ethos that characterized his father's off-season work. It serves as a practical music workshop, offering thousands of performance hours away from the scrutinizing eye of stadium-sized tours.
