Minecraft Sword Enchantment Meta: Where Bane of Arthropods Ranks Today

Read expert perspectives concerning Minecraft Sword Enchantment Meta: Where Bane of Arthropods Ranks Today.

Minecraft enforces strict exclusivity rules on sword damage modifiers. Players cannot combine Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods on a single weapon without using console commands or creative mode workarounds. Choosing one means permanently sacrificing the benefits of the other two on that specific blade.

Mutually Exclusive Weapon Modifiers (Choose One):

│ • Bane of Arthropods: Hyper-specialized bug counter │

Sharpness operates as the universal standard. In Java Edition, Sharpness adds 1.0 base damage at level I, followed by 0.5 extra damage per subsequent level, capping out at +3.0 flat damage at level V. In Bedrock Edition, the scaling is even more aggressive, granting 1.25 damage per level for a total of +6.25 damage. That bonus applies uniformly to creepers, piglins, blazes, endermen, and rival players on PvP servers.

Smite and Bane of Arthropods share an identical mathematical scaling formula: 2.5 extra damage per level against their respective target groups. At level V, both enchantments inject a staggering 12.5 bonus attack damage (6.25 full hearts) into every standard melee strike.

The structural problem lies entirely within the mob pools. Smite targets undead monsters, a roster that encompasses zombies, skeletons, drowneds, husks, phantoms, withers, wither skeletons, and the zombified piglins packing the Nether wastes. Undead mobs make up the overwhelming majority of day-to-day hostile encounters. Bane of Arthropods, by contrast, targets five entities: spiders, cave spiders, silverfish, endermites, and neutral bees.
