Mapping the Anime Face: Visual Guide to Perfect Nose Placement
The three-quarter perspective causes the most structural errors in character art. As the head rotates roughly 45 degrees, the nose stops functioning as a graphic mark and becomes an extruded wedge that projects past the inner eye plane.
To establish this angle correctly, project a subtle construction pyramid out from the brow bridge down to the nasal spine. The peak of this pyramid establishes the tip of the nose. Keep the bridge slope relatively flat; excessive nasal humps instantly shift the style toward Western caricature unless intentional. In standard feminine and youthful designs, the contour runs almost straight down from the brow before curving upward into a rounded or slightly upturned point. Ensure the far nostril wing remains invisible behind the projecting septum to preserve clean silhouette hierarchy.
