Lori Singer's Marital History: Photos, Public Appearances, and Official Records
In 1980, just as her screen career began gaining momentum, Lori Singer married Richard Emery. Emery was not an actor or an entertainment mogul; he was an acclaimed appellate attorney, civil rights champion, and later the founding partner of the New York law firm Emery Celli Brinckerhoff & Abady LLP. He also served as chair of the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board.
The union bridged two intense, distinct worlds: Manhattan's high-stakes constitutional law scene and Hollywood's film industry. While Singer traveled to film projects like Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (1993) and the neo-noir Trouble in Mind (1985), home base remained anchored in New York. Emery was a serious intellectual presence, later writing legal thrillers and tackling major police-misconduct litigation.
In March 1991, after more than a decade of marriage, Singer gave birth to their only child, a son named Jacques Rio Emery. Jacques was named in part after Lori's father, the renowned symphony conductor Jacques Singer. Balancing prestige cinema roles with motherhood, Singer noticeably scaled back her film schedule during the mid-1990s to focus on raising her son.
