Is Reze Dead or Alive? Key Manga Clues and Film Scenes That Reveal Her True Status
By David Miller
Social media feeds and manga communities see fresh "Reze return" theories whenever a new chapter drops. Fujimoto understands her popularity, which is precisely why he delays her reintroduction. Reze holds enormous emotional weight over Denji. She was the first person who saw through his rough exterior, related to his lack of education, and showed him genuine intimacy outside of an employment contract.
Denji spent a large portion of Part 2 wrestling with isolation, poverty, and his complicated dynamic with Asa Mitaka and the War Devil, Yoru. Dropping Reze back into the frame prematurely would derail those character arcs. Her absence creates narrative tension. Readers know she is alive in the world, breathing the same air as Denji, kept apart only by Public Safety's walls and Fujimoto's methodical pacing.
