Which Episode Does Mello Die? Exact Chapter, Scene Breakdown, and Evidence
By Alexander Ross
By late 2009 in the series timeline, Light Yagami had centralized Kira's public communications through NHK news anchor Kiyomi Takada. Takada served as the official conduit between Kira and Teru Mikami, the fanatical prosecutor carrying out executions with an operational notebook. Recognizing that Near, real name Nate River, was methodically closing the perimeter around Light through the Special Provision for Kira (SPK), Mello made an aggressive gambit.
Enlisting the help of his longtime associate Matt (Mail Jeevas), Mello executed a brazen ambush during Takada's motorcade escort. Matt created a tactical diversion using smoke grenades and evasive driving, drawing away the protective detail before being cornered and shot dead by Takada's bodyguards. Taking advantage of the chaos, Mello intercepted Takada on a motorcycle disguised in a helmet, forcing her at gunpoint into a panel van.
Mello ordered Takada to strip naked inside the rear of the truck and wrap herself in a blanket to eliminate concealed transmitters or tracking devices. While this maneuver stripped her of obvious bugs, it missed an invisible, lethal instrument.
