Jennifer Goicoechea's Age and Usher's 5-Year Age Gap: the Untold Story Behind Their Whirlwind Romance
Reducing Goicoechea to the label of celebrity spouse ignores two decades of rigorous operational work within major label systems. Raised by an Italian father and a Puerto Rican mother, Barbara Goicoechea, Jennifer watched her mother direct production at Act Productions, a premier Miami event management firm. That early access taught her the logistical mechanics of live entertainment before she ever signed an artist.
After studying recording arts at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, Goicoechea moved directly into artist management. She initially shadowed singer Boosie Badazz, coordinating tour routing and studio sessions. That boots-on-the-ground management grind led her to the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), where she served as Director of Rhythm & Soul. At ASCAP, she scouted unsigned songwriters, tracked royalty payments, and negotiated crucial showcase opportunities for rising talent.
Epic Records hired Goicoechea in 2014, eventually elevating her to Senior Vice President of A&R (Artists and Repertoire). In that executive seat, she oversaw creative budgets, cleared production splits, and matched top-tier vocalists with charting producers. When she and Usher connected on a deeper level around 2018, 2019, they spoke as industry peers who understood the brutal pressures of the recording business.
