Is the Angel Next Door Dubbed in English? Fact-Checking Rumors vs Reality
By Elena Rostova
When studio Project No.9 adapted Saekisan’s light novel in early 2023, the show became an immediate sleeper hit within the romance community. Japanese streaming ratings soared, merchandise sales climbed, and home video numbers outpaced seasonal expectations. Yet, while high-octane battle shonen like Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen routinely secured same-day simuldubs, quiet romantic comedies faced strict corporate prioritization.
Crunchyroll’s seasonal dubbing budgets during 2023 and 2024 centered heavily on mainstream action and isekai titles. Slower character studies frequently sat on the backburner. Industry tracking through late 2025 indicated that romantic comedy dubs were commissioned at roughly one-third the frequency of fantasy adaptations. The Angel Next Door remained accessible strictly with original Japanese audio and localized subtitles, sparking regular petitions and recurring fan debates on Reddit’s r/anime community. The logjam only broke when pre-production scheduling for the second season forced distributors to address the unresolved backlog.
