Inside Neil Peart's Private Family Life: Photos, Tributes, and Memories of His Daughters
Peart’s daily life in California looked nothing like the typical rock veteran profile. He woke up early to cook breakfast, drove morning carpools, and spent afternoons walking the neighborhood or tinkering with his collection of vintage silver sports cars. Carrie Nuttall’s candid photographs captured a man who looked entirely at peace: curled up reading with his young daughter, hiking mountain trails, or laughing at family dinner tables.
This domestic contentment directly spurred his decision to walk away from professional music. During the 2015 R40 40th Anniversary Tour, Peart battled severe tendonitis and foot problems, but physical wear was only secondary. He could no longer stomach long months away from a six-year-old child who missed her dad. When the tour concluded on August 1, 2015, at the Forum in Los Angeles, Peart walked out to center stage alongside Lee and Lifeson for the first time in band history. He walked away from the kit for good, happily self-identifying on official forms simply as a "retired drummer."
