How to Go Back in Ddlc: Visual Guide to Resetting Scripts and Save Data
When players ask how to back up, they usually fall into one of two camps: those wanting to reread a missed sentence, and those trying to undo a catastrophic narrative branch.
For simple conversational rollbacks within a surviving Act:
- Use the **Page Up** key or spin your mouse wheel upward to display dialogue backlogs.
- Click the **History** button on the bottom navigation bar to review raw text transcripts if the screen effects make standard reading difficult.
- Note that critical confession events and post-glitch scenes disable this feature via engine overrides.
If you need a complete narrative rollback to save a specific character or trigger alternative CG illustrations, you have to execute a first run reset. For the original PC release, start by quitting the application entirely.
Next, navigate to your computer's persistent storage. On Windows, press `Windows Key + R`, type `%appdata%`, and hit Enter. Locate the folder labeled `RenPy` and open the subfolder named `DDLC-1.4.5` (or your corresponding patch number). Inside, locate the file named `persistent` alongside any files ending in `.save`. Delete them.
Finally, open your root game directory file path, accessible via Steam by right-clicking the game, selecting Manage, and clicking Browse local files. Open the `game` directory and delete the file named `firstrun`. When you relaunch the game, the software treats you as a brand-new player, rebuilding the default scripts and unlocking early dialogue paths.
