Gaten Matarazzo's Family Album: the Real Story of the Parents Who Raised Dustin Henderson
By Alexander Ross
One of the internet’s longest-running Hollywood misconceptions involves Gaten’s mother. Search engines routinely conflate his mother, Heather Matarazzo, with actress Heather Matarazzo, known for her acclaimed roles in Welcome to the Dollhouse and The Princess Diaries.
The mix-up became so widespread on social platforms that the actress addressed it directly on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). She confirmed that while she finds Gaten exceptionally talented, she is not his mother, aunt, or cousin. The two simply share an Italian surname and a common first name.
Gaten’s actual mother, Heather, spent his childhood managing household logistics, medical files, and audition schedules. She stayed entirely behind the camera, avoiding the celebrity circuit to maintain normalcy for her three children back in Ocean County.
