Can You Move the Dog Bowl in Stardew Valley? Layout Rules and Robin's Menu Explained
Before the 1.6 expansion, the fixed pet bowl sat on the upper-right perimeter of the farmhouse on standard maps, creating an awkward dead zone. Modders bypassed this with map-editing scripts, but console and mobile farmers remained stuck. When ConcernedApe reclassified the dish as a standard movable structure, it unlocked total creative freedom for farm building layout designs.
The bowl now occupies an active 2x2 tile footprint. You can place it directly beside barns, tuck it inside fenced pastures, or line several bowls along your southern riverbank. Relocating the original bowl costs zero gold and consumes zero in-game time. You only need Robin at her carpentry counter during regular business hours.
Because the bowl counts as a building entity, standard terrain clearance rules apply. The chosen destination must be clear of trees, debris, tillable hoed dirt, and decorative paths. If grass or weeds sprout on the target tiles, Robin's placement tool will flash red until you clear the ground with an axe or pickaxe.
