From Police Constable to Gangster's Father: the Untold Story of Lawrence Bishnoi's Dad
By Alexander Ross
The story of Lavinder Singh Bishnoi upends conventional explanations of gang recruitment in northern India. His household did not lack financial capital, generational security, or exposure to institutional authority. It possessed all three. Instead, the family’s journey shows how university factionalism, unchecked firearm cultures in the student belts, and strategic alliances can decouple young men from their families' values.
Today, the sprawling fields around Duttaranwali yield their seasonal harvests just as they did when Lavinder took off his police uniform three decades ago. Yet the patriarch lives essentially isolated within his village gates. While television networks broadcast coverage of international trials, diplomatic expulsions, and federal crackdowns, the former constable remains an unwilling witness to the global criminal empire that grew out of his family name.
